Scholarships

The Department of Art offers the following scholarships:

Florence Simon Beecher Talent Scholarship

Roger and Gloria Jones Fine Art Scholarship for incoming freshman pursuing the BFA degree. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, have submitted an application to YSU, completed the scholarship application including artist statement, statement of financial need, and a digital portfolio, with image list, of 10 to 15 original works.

Contact the Art Department @ (330) 941-3627. The deadline to apply for the 2020-2021 scholarship awards is 4 pm June 8, 2020.

Recipients will be re-evaluated annually. For continuity of awards, students must: 1. maintain an accumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better; 2. carry a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours each fall and spring semester; and 3. continue pursuit of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree.

Current Student Scholarships

Scholarship applications for current students are reviewed in February and awarded for the following year. The deadline to apply for the 2020-2021 scholarship awards is 4 pm February 7, 2020.

A USB jump drive that includes portfolio and all other required materials must be submitted in a sealed envelope with applicants name and the name of the scholarship(s) applied for clearly listed on the exterior. Theodore R. Cubbison Painting Scholarships for current students with an emphasis in Painting/Printmaking. Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 GPA, have completed the scholarship application including artist statement, statement of financial need, and a digital portfolio, with image list, of 10 to 12 original works (drawings may be included).

Howard I. Fisher Memorial Scholarship for a current Graphic Design major pursuing the BFA. Applicants must have a 2.8 GPA, have completed the scholarship application and FAFSA, and must include a letter expressing interest and financial need along with a digital portfolio of 10-12 works.

Elaine Glasser Memorial Art Education Scholarship for current students pursuing the BS in Art Education. Applicants must have a minimum 2.7 GPA, have completed the scholarship application including a letter of interest and a digital portfolio, with image list, of 10 to 15 original works.

David Hume Kennerly Scholarship for current student majoring in Photography: Applicants must be sophomore or above maintain a 3.0 GPA., submit application, artist statement, letter of need and digital portfolio of 10 to 12 works to be evaluated by committee. Applicants must complete FAFSA.

George Meshel Scholarship for current BFA student majoring in Painting/interdisciplinary Studio Art majors. Applicants must have a minimum 2.7 GPA, have completed the scholarship application including statement of financial need, and a digital portfolio, with image list, of 10 to 12 original works (drawings may be included).

Ruth Davies Newman Scholarship for current female Studio Art major. Applicants must have completed their freshman year, earned a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Applicants also must have completed the scholarship application and FAFSA, include statement of interest and financial need, and a digital portfolio, with image list, of 10 to 12 original works.

Jessica C. Porcase Memorial Scholarship for current female Graphic Design major with a preference given to those who work Part-time and played sports in HS. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, have completed the scholarship application including statement of interest, and a digital portfolio, with image list, of 10 to 12 original works.

Robert J. Yalch Photo Award for an outstanding student majoring in Photography will be awarded through a generous grant from the Robert J. Yalch Endowment. Applicants must be a sophomore or above, and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Submit application, artist statement, letter of interest and digital portfolio with image list, of 10 to 12 works.

Robert J. Yalch Scholarships (8) for current Studio Art majors. Eight scholarships for any studio art, art history or pre-art ed major will be awarded through a generous grant from the Robert J. Yalch Endowment. Applicants must have a 2.7 GPA and include a letter expressing interest along with a portfolio of 10-12 works (for studio art/ pre-art ed majors) or three to five-page writing sample (for art history majors).
